callous

i feel the callous

on my hand

where left ring finger meets palm

and i wonder if that hadn’t been

my heart for a year

i had wondered if you’d cared

to soften it even a little

cause though i walked in my love

for you

i was misery to circumstances

you did once

care

but the callous was contagious

and it grew on you

the problem is

mine softened with time

with my love for you

yours simply grew into stone

with no cracks

no room to get in

so i sat in your rock garden

waiting to be let in again

but sadly

this stone doesn’t roll away.
